We recently completed an exciting project, transforming a steep backyard in West Chester, PA. The various stages and landscaping elements highlight the transformation of a steep, dirt backyard into a beautiful and functional outdoor space. The project features a fiberglass pool, custom pool house, boulder walls, and more, showcasing our dedication to quality and creativity.
The Fiberglass Pool
The focal point of this project is a Rivers I30 fiberglass pool. It includes a tanning shelf and two deep-end step-out benches. The pool features a salt system, automation, lighting, and an electric heater for year-round use.
Elegant Pool Coping and Patio
We chose PA Blue Stone with a thermal finish and square edges for the pool coping. This clean, sophisticated look complements the landscape. The flagstone patio extends from the pool to the deck and back door, creating a seamless flow throughout the yard.
The Custom Pool House
A custom pool house adds charm to the backyard. It includes a bar, stone veneer, granite countertops, an open gable, and a metal roof. The pool house provides a stylish and functional space for entertaining and relaxation.
Tackling the Steep Grade
The backyard had a steep nine-foot elevation change. To solve this, we built multiple Boulder retaining walls. These walls made the space usable and added natural stone beauty.
Access and Installation
With limited access, both the pool and pool house were installed using a crane. This ensured precise placement, despite the challenging terrain.
Creating a Play Area
The homeowner wanted a flat play area for their children. We pushed back a hillside and built additional Boulder retaining walls. Later, we added a pondless waterfall, creating a soothing sound and focal point that can be enjoyed from many parts of the yard.
Enhancing Accessibility
To improve accessibility, we incorporated large irregular blue stone steppers and flagstone pieces, creating a natural staircase with landscaping on both sides. This design not only makes it easier to navigate the steep yard but also integrates seamlessly with the overall aesthetic.
Final Touches: Fencing and Drainage
While transforming a steep backyard in West Chester PA, we finished the project with a 54-inch black aluminum fence featuring an arched gate at the main entrance for safety. A French drain system between the pool and the waterfall addressed drainage issues and prevented erosion.
